Potpourri

I hope everyone had a Happy Mother's day. Mine was quiet with no expectations that I do anything. I was originally going to see my mother but she'll be here Tuesday and we'll celebrate then. My youngest DD, niece and nephew took my sister, youngest niece and I to brunch. The three of them are all grown and working now. It's been a joy watching them grow. They've turned into a nice group of kids.

I got to spin yesterday! It's hypnotic and addicting. The yarn I spun isn't great, but I'm not ready to quit. I don't know if I have to take my wheel to class or not, but if I do, I'd like to at least be able to use it. It's a production wheel and it spins fast. By the end of the day I was spinning relatively more consistent singles and my drafting was better. This morning I remembered it's possible to convert it to a bobbin lead wheel. I'm going to try it and see if that will slow it down some.

On the knitting front, Soleil is heading into the home stretch. If I knit during lunch and my commute this week, I should be finished by the weekend.

I've also been sewing. My youngest niece graduates from 8th grade June 5th. She asked me to make her dress and being the doting aunt, I said yes. We went to JoAnn's and she chose the patterns and the fabric. Chances are she'll only wear this once so no need to invest a fortune. I'm a little concerned that it's too dressy, but her mom's fine with it. I made the muslin Saturday and she tried it on yesterday. I added an inch to each seam and that's the only alteration needed. We'll be using this fabric:

to make this
We're making the dress in the upper left hand corner with the overlay similiar to that shown on the red dress. Since the dress can't be sleeveless we'll be adding this bolero in the solid.

With all this fiber activity, you know something's not getting done. And if you guessed housework and yardwork you'd be correct!!! It's not raining right now so I'm going to weed the front bed, then do some housework. I'd like to get the dress cut out this afternoon and if I'm really moving at the speed of light, I might get back to the spinning wheel.

Oh, DD#2 gave me this. Does she know her Mama or what?

TTYL,

Melodye

Isn't it nice to sew for someone who appreciates it. I miss the days when I used to sew for my nieces. Actually I miss sewing period. If I keep reading your blog I'm going to have to pick it up again.

Good luck with your spinning and the class.
