Vogue Knitting Circle Jacket - Finished!!!!

Finally, a finished object to post.  I started this for the Ravellenic games and finished it this past Sunday while preparing for Sandy.  It's the crocheted circle jacket from the Vogue Knitting Crochet Special edition that was out earlier this year.  It's similar to the knitted Swirl Jacket that's so popular right now.  I used the yarn from my MDSW purchases this year.  BTW, this is the first time I've used purchases within a year or two of purchasing them!

The jacket uses a dk weight yarn and a mohair blend in the same color.  It's not difficult to crochet but it can be tedious.  It's made with a 4 row repeat and three of those rows are crocheted in either the front or back  of the stitch. Unlike the Swirl it's worked from the inside out.  It starts with a 61" flat piece that is later seamed on each end so that you have a open tube.  Then you pick up stitches around the circumference and work out from there increasing every ten stitches on the mohair row.  The only real complaint I have with the pattern is that flat piece.  Crocheting it that way means that there are a bazillion ends to weave in!  It would have been better to crochet each end in the round with the middle section crocheted flat. If I'd done nothing else but this jacket I'd have been finished.  The jacket portion took me less than a month.  This is on the schedule at the Knitting Boutique, but I doubt I'll make another. If DD#2 asks for it, I'll give it her rather than make another one.

I'll try to post a pic of me wearing it once Harold gets home.

TTYL,

Melodye

How pretty, can't wait to see it on you. I was intrigued by that pattern I may have to pick up my hooks and give it a try.

What an accomplishment! I started the motif shawl from that edition and didn't get very far. Now I am totally ashamed of myself and will have to go dig it out and finish it.

Hello! I found your blog doing a Google search for the Vogue Circle Jacket. I wonder--could you help me with a question on the jacket? I'm crocheting it in the round, because I've seen so many people comment that they should have done that. My question is this: In crocheting in the round, when I come to the end of a row and have to change yarns, should I just continue around, or should I crochet backward (turning the piece inside/out)? That's the only part befuddling me, and this mohair yarn does not pull out well if I make a mistake.
