Look what I Uncovered!

It’s Sunday afternoon, and I still have to finish up the sewing portion of the weekend. I wound up taking Friday off, so I did get the bedroom finished and the machine work on the pants completed. While in the sewing room, I realized there’s no way I’m going to clean the room in a weekend. It has a serious lack of storage and that needs to be addressed first. I did clean up the quilt fabric. I haven’t done any quilting in a while, haven’t even bought any fabric, so there’s no reason that section was a mess. Here’s what it looked like to start:

This is after:

While I was refolding fabric I found this:

It is my oldest UFO. I bought the kit in a small needlework shop in Phoebus, VA while I was stationed at Fort Monroe, VA in 1974. That’s right, it’s 35 years old. Older than my oldest daughter! It is one of my favorite sayings. I first heard it in that Bing Crosby movie with Ingrid Bergman where he’s a priest and she’s a nun. And for the life of my, I can’t remember the name of the movie. “Going my Way” maybe? When I saw it in the shop, I had to have it. It’s almost finished. I no longer have the thread, but I could spend the afternoon in the local needlecraft shop and find the thread to complete it. Or I could go through my stash of embroidery thread. VBG

I also found these. I bought these panels not long after I started quilting. I bought all there were and I’ve never seen them since. I don’t think my youngest daughter was even born. I’ve never quite found the right pattern to use them. I’d like to make a quilt for both of them using these panels.

I tend to make bed size quilts and I hand quilt them. I only have one that I’ve made. I finished a top from my great-grandmother for my grandmother. When she died, it came back to me. It’s one on my most prized possessions and one I’d run back into a burning house to retrieve.

I have several tops that I need to quilt, but I’m seriously considering machine quilting those. I’ll take pictures of them and post them soon.

Wow ! Congratulations to your rearranging things and on your finds. I love it when that happens, makes me feel as though I've come across a gold mine.

Oh my goodness! That was a trip down memory lane. I worked at a JoAnn's in college and I remember those doll patterns. That was in the late 80's! LOL! I forgot all about those. Thanks for this post!
