I'm back in business. Of course the laptop couldn't be fixed and I gave serious thought to not replacing it, But I did. We travel and neither one of us likes being off line for long. And it's getting to the point now that we go on vacation we do the same things we do at home, just in a different location.
But I have been busy. I finished washing all but one of the fleeces. I've decided I'm going to have that one done by a local fiber processing source. This particular fleece is a Romney and it's a gorgeous white. It's also huge. I laid it out on a a drop cloth that was 8 x 10 and it practically covered the cloth.
Even though I don't usually knit socks, I've started socks for the little people in our lives. I really need a small project to carry along. I hate sitting and doing nothing. The next couple of hand knit projects require deep thought!!
The kids want sweaters but they'll be done on the knitting machine. It will give me the chance to really learn how to use them. Their moms all work, so I'm not giving them sweaters that need special care. I'm having trouble finding suitable colors for boys in sportweight yarn. Also, don't you think $60 is a bit much for a child's sweater? I keep telling myself that Mom can hand it down to GS#2, but still. I don't have a problem spending more than that for an adult sweater, but then it's wool and will be hand washed.
And finally a finished object. Well almost, it still has to be blocked. It's the Holden Shawlette. My first shawl. Knitting shawls seem to be addictive. I spent last night trying to pick out my next one!

With the amount of work that goes into making any item..you want to make it out of something that compliments the work...$60. isn't too much to spend for a childs "Handmade" sweater it becomes an Heirloom they can save for theirs :o)

Can you use DK weight yarn, or does it have to be sport weight?
If you can use sport weight, have you tried Berroco Comfort DK? It is an acrylic, nylon blend, but feels kind of cottony. Machine wash, machine dry.
I've used it and it washes nicely.
Just an idea...
I knitted sweaters for two of my nieces when they were little girls out of Noro Kureyon. Their father split the cost with me and they have them saved for the children. The oldest one could have passed hers down to her sister but she didn't. Would I do that again, probably not but it depends on whether or not the parents will properly care for them.
I fell in love with shawls years ago. I don't knit them as often as I would like but I always have at least one on the needles. There are a lot of really nice patterns out there to chose from.
Your shawl is beautiful! I love the color- it's perfect for fall. I know what you mean about finding "boy colors". I usually have to order easy care sport weight from Herrschner's or Mary Maxim.

I too prefer to make children's clothes out of wash-and-wear yarn. A lot of the acrylics are very soft now.
I envy your Romney fleece! It sounds gorgeous.
I have really liked Plymouth Encore for childrens sweaters and it doesn't break the bank, plus it's machine washable.
You laptop dilemma rang a cord here. I thought mine was over the cliff but it turns out the new battery was a dud. What did you get???
Glad you got the computer situation resolved. I don't like not being connected. We both got iPhones in June and what a difference they have made. Almost everything I can do on my laptop, I can do on my phone. It's just that I don't enjoy pecking out messages and touch type isn't an option :)
