Kamikaze Sewing!

Or better yet, do or die sewing!

Saturday night DH and I went to a retirement party.  I've known about it for over a month and when I put it on the calendar, my first thought was, "I don't have anything to wear!"

It's not that I completely forgot it, but I've been battling a nasty sinus infection for weeks.  I've done two different antibiotics, a prednisone taper and several other drugs.  I think we've almost beat it into submission.

Friday afternoon, I finally went shopping.  I went to one store and tried on several things.  The only thing I liked and would have bought was a sleeveless black jumpsuit.  Overall the fit was fine, but it was too short.  The plan was to go home, fix dinner and run to JoAnns.  That didn't pan out as the sinus headache came roaring back.

I finally made it to JoAnns at noon on Saturday.  I was back home by 1:30 had a quick snack and was in the sewing room by 2:00.  I bought McCall's 6083 and 3 yards of black matte jersey.  I made view C without the sash.  The only alterations I made were to add 4 inches to the bodice and 3 inches to the length of the leg.  With the exception of the casings for the elastic, it was constructed completely on the serger.

For reasons known only to the sewing gods, I had trouble threading the serger.  It just came back from its whenever I remember to take it in cleaning so it was operating fine.  It's about 28 years old and serves my needs perfectly, so I really haven't thought about buying a new one.  Normally I just tie the threads on and pull them through.  !@#$%^& No luck.  Finally I took a deep breath and rethreaded it from scratch. No problem, it sewed (or serged) like a champ!  Other than the serger the most time consuming part was threading the elastic through and getting it tight enough to ensure there would be no garment malfunctions.

By 4:30 I was heading for the shower!  It was a quick, fun sew.   I think I'll make it again with one of the cocoon tops to wear to the shop and outings with DH. I'll shorten the pants by about an inch and maybe the bodice.  I haven't sewn like this, since I went to college the first time.  We'd go out buy fabric, rush back to the dorm, sew like crazy and wear our new creations that night.  We didn't worry about fit (of course we were 18!) but just sewed to have something new to wear.  Of course this was simple, but it was fun!  I added a jacket DD gave me a couple of years ago, some silver jewelry and my new platform heels.  I absolutely love these heels.  They are so comfortable.  Without further ado:

Go foxy lady! Love your natural. I started letting mine grow out about 8 weeks ago. Still a little perm left to cut off in the top but I love it so far.

I hope it will be like yours so I have gray hair in the same areas.
